Sarah Cahill

Before my life as a writer I was a New Zealand registered nurse. I worked for many years in the New Zealand public health system and in the NHS in the United Kingdom.

In 2016, I qualified as a technical writer, focused on plain English writing. Initially I wrote for a range of health related clients, writing across a broad range of topics. But as other writing opportunities presented themselves, I found I had a knack for, and a love of, writing plain English content for other industries.

Job title: Writer, specialising in plain English health and medical writing.

Location: Auckland

Experience: : I have extensive knowledge and expertise in the healthcare industry, having worked for 14 years as a registered nurse in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. For the past two years I’ve been working in health communications, writing for print and online audiences.

I have a Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing), Post-graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice and a Certificate in Technical Communication.

Specialities: Plain English health articles, brochures, factsheets, guides and web copy.

I'm looking for: Health and medical writing, including content for health organisations, not-for-profits and other health-related industries. I can work with you on small or large projects – one day, one week, one month or indefinitely.

Best endorsement: “Sarah helped us with a major publications project where we needed a range of guides, booklets and brochures written and content for our new website.

Sarah quickly understood our brief and target audience. She spent time talking with health professionals and families to learn what they needed and wanted from the new resources.

The tone and language Sarah used was exactly what we wanted, and the information was easy-to-understand. We’ve received excellent feedback from people who have used the resources.” Jane Bollard – CEO, Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand

Availability/lead time: Varies depending on the scope of the project.
